View Full Version : updating SMF forums
has anyone run an update of SMF on umlb? I'm trying to update from 1.1 to 1.2 and can't get either the package to upload (i get error about permissions), i can't upload the zip (and set to auto unzip) or anything.
Has anyone been able to do this?
thanks
PS i tried searching for SMF but i guess smf is too short of a term to search for.
thanks

I had to download and install manually. I'm not sure what needed to be done differently. Only I didn't read enough before updating and a bunch of my mods were overwritten and I had to change a bunch of settings again (shop mod, gallery etc)
Hopefully somone can help a little, as with the next update I would like to use the package tool and not lose my settings
For one thing you cannot "retrieve" data from a different site onto yours. There were also packages you should be able to download but ULMB doesn't allow this, so you cannot get the upgrade package through the AdminCP. You must do this manually as furiousg stated.
Also to add some little nit-picking...
You did a search for SMF on this forum right? Why'd you search for "SMF" ? You should have atleast added a bit more such as "SMF Update". Atleast then you could get better results of what you're looking for.

Please post an error message.
does the auto unzip feature overwrite existing files? or does it crap out if files already exist?
hmm..this time i got another error.
An Error Has Occured
smf_1-1-2_update.zip/Packages/backups/.htaccess - File or Folder name cannot begin with a dot.
smf_1-1-2_update.zip/attachments/.htaccess - File or Folder name cannot begin with a dot.
I understand i do not need these files so no worries there. Is it safe to say all the others got overwritten?
to address nit-pickyness...
i searched for smf, update smf, upgrade smf etc. each query chopped off the smf. Did you try searching before nit picking? ;)
Showing results 1 to 21 of 21
Search took 0.03 seconds. Search: Key Word(s): update
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: smf
