well im having a small annoying problem with my pc. i believe its a virus but my scanner says there is nothing,
well when i go into control pannel i cannot click on any icon, it doesnt load anything. thats under an administrator account. i cannot even access my desktop settings, ive tried reseting.
does anyone know how to fix this

I dont see anything thats a virus there.
You do have an awful lot of programs in your startup, i think you may be just out of memory.

i know you can't see anything there but something modified a few of my system files as i got the please insert your windows xp cd as some system files have been modified.
not having the disk didnt help so i ignored it. im sure one of the files it said was this one C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe and something else.

Check those files to see if they are signed by microsoft.

no i dont believe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe is signed by microsoft. Im not sure how you check but i cannot find out who made the file and what version it is. unlike all the other files in system 32 which says copyright microsoft and so on

Actually mine isnt signed either but last modified is in 2006.
Try searching on google for that file, i cant send you mine because im using vista.
Arrange the folder by date and look for other files modified at the same time.

i deleted the file and replaced it with a copy from windows 98 and it works fine now
guess it doesn't matter what version it is to much

I havent reformated since 1999.
Always copied my drive from one pc to the other as I upgraded.

True, for some people. But I have externals that I keep my documents, files, etc.. on. Reformating is like spring cleaning to me. :D
When I reformat, I just save files to CD-RW's :p lol I usually only need one since I don't have too much on here.
