ok, I felt like upgrading my site to be wikipedia like...i mean exactly like wikipedia, and i downloaded the free source code...and it has .htaccess file...im pretty sure its important if its in there, and i dont have money to buy an account to use this file...are there any suggestions as to what i can do to get the file on the site, but not that file (if that makes senese) what i mean by that is is there a way i can make into a different file type to upload it? if not what can i do about this?

Nope, we block it, if you try to upload it it wont work, I think its funny that you are asking how to bypass our restrictions on our forums. (that's asking us how to break the terms of service you agreed to)
You probably don't need it, try it first.

i wasn't asking you how to bypass anything, i was just wondering if there was a way to make like a php or javascript or whatever out of it, i know its blocked and i had no intention of uploading it. I was just simply wondering a nice way around using the file, not bypass any security or anything, just wondering if i can make the wiki stuff with a file that does that stuff, but allowed by you guys...

No, it won't. I use mediawiki without the htaccess file and everything works fine.

Why don't you allow it? It allows you to password protect directories.. Which we can't do...
And I think you can IP ban people from your site with it..
EDIT: Nevermind, I forgot that I can protect files and folders with my FTP client.

.htaccess uses alot of system resources (especially when used incorrectly)
You can use php to password protect a web page alot better then .htaccess. You just cant pw protect a gif file or something like that, but then again, why would you need to, the only people who would know where it is are the ones that have a login for the pw protected area.
We do allow it for paid users.
