Are News Grabbers allowed?

I was wondering if I was allowed to use a news grabber on my site. What it does is it connects to RuneScape.com(not illegally of course) and it grabs the latest news from updates, and copies and prints them to my site, in a different section from the website's news. I'd rather ask you guys and get an answer then use it and get banned or reported or whatever...so what do you think is it ok?

Yes we allow it.

You must have permission from the other site to do this.
Copying content of a website without that sites permission is copyright violation and will get your hosting closed.

That being said dont do it unless you really need to.
Making external requests slows down your site, and if the site your pulling information off is down due to a timeout error, it will cause your site to also be down.

well I'm not trying to be mean..just informing you that I'm pretty sure that RuneScape.com will never go down for timeout reasons...this game has been out for a long time (i think 13 years) and i dont think it has ever been down for anything really....ill ask jagex if im allowed to do that right now...thanks ^_^

Development of a beta was started in 1999. 2007 - 1999 = 8, at most. They have had several occasions where the servers crashed and the website _and_ game servers were down.

i was just estimating at how long its been out (forgot the date) and i have never seen the servers go down...ive been playing for 4 years, and it has never happened to me.

i have been playing for 4 years...I just got one of my accounts back recently that was banned 3 years ago, and I played on it when i had aol...that was before i moved. I moved when i was in 8th grade, and Ive been playing since 7th grade...it has never crashed or shut down that I know of...this is a multimillion dollar company we are talking about...they have to have back up servers or else everyone would just quit...come to think of it, I joined right around the time rs2 was released and everyone migrated from classic.

No, i have been playing for 4 years...I know because I was in 7th grade, im now in 11th grade, not 4 full years yet...and I also said they havent crashed that i know of...i play for at least 30 minutes a day, sometimes more...it depends...recently ive been working on my website and havent had time.

because when I get on, I look to see if there is another update...and I have never seen anything about the server crashing

Erm ... why does this matter? You got your answer already :) Obviously the site has had some kind of downtime in its past; every site will. See the news links that were posted if you need confirmation.

Who cares if a site has been down or not? Arguing over who's right and who's wrong on when a site's been down or not is pointless and really off topic.

News grabbers are allowed. End of conversation. No need to keep dragging it on and on. Go to the general talk forum and post about random things there.
