I'm attempting to install invision power board (v1.3.x)...i've set up a db and enter the info fine and everything, but as soon as I attempt to proceed, I get a mysql error message telling me that part of the mysql db (something about marcos) is not responding...anyone have any ideas?
(i have to run now, but on my way back I'll try to reinstall it again and get you a screenshot or quote exactly what to says)

Are you using the correct settings?
Make sure your using the right database name and username, and the host is mysql not localhost.

I dont think it is possible to install IPB <=2.0.x on a server with PHP 5+

I am not sure, you might want to contact Invison support to see what they suggest.

Even tho invision power board does not support php 5.
you can still use 5, you just can't use php 5s new features.
It should work, check your setting, and check if you uploaded everthing.

macro_set smallint(3) NOT NULL default '' <-- right there is problem. default isn't wants to be something, change it from '' to NULL and it should fix it.

Well, I have had this pporblem in the past, it is infact the MySQL version sorry, rather than PHP, I tried installing, version 1.3.1 on MySQL 5 ( different server ) and got the very same error, but a manual fix to make it compatiable with MySQL 5 should be possible. Note that Invision Power Services willlnot offer support for this product unless you have a license, which I belive you don't other wise you would use IPB 2.1.7..
Also, how did you get hold of your 1.3.x version.

I had it from a long time ago, and since I liked it so much (including a built-in portal, along with a pretty huge ammount of mods/skins).
any idea how to do the manual fixes? i found one, but it's a fix that needs to be installed to an already installed board, which is pretty useless to me, since I'm just trying to install my board now...

Dude, seriously, don't post that, it is strictly illegal to share IPB software, so to is downloading it. I surgest you remove that attatchment immediately before you are reported to IPS.
i wonder if this forum is legally licensed

1 thing I can say.
Old version does not support by the IPB group anymore. you can search it over the net even on their forum, they only support IPB v2.x since they drop IPB 1.x and started on IPB 2.x
(they started it from IPB v1 to v1.3) then they didnt continue working on it, there no v1.4, they drop it and made a new project which is ipb v2.x
Also IPB1.x is Free

thanks man, i didn't wanna use phpbb.
one problem, you forgot a file, or something.
but i was able to fix it by creating lang_date.php myself, if you want me to tell you what to do or something, i can help.
Wow, finally a user that searches around! For a second there I thought this was going to be another "I'm having issues installing IPB!" threads....
Also thesv, you didn't have to use phpBB because it was the only free forum. There's also SMF which is really great in my opinion. :)

yea, lol.
smf doesn't look good, as in style and stuff.
i dunno, i love invision 1.3.1, so it's just as good.
but man i had to go through every file, finding all the ones that used lang_date.php and redirect them to a different lang, which i editted to that & lang_date.php because when i tried creating lang_data.php it wouldn't work.
it's all good, i think i fixed MOST of it, but i'll find them as i go along.
Well, hope it all goes well for you man :) I'm sticking to SMF though :p The style is "ok" in my opinion (better than phpBB) and everything is going smoothly with me so I'm happy with it. :)

well i mean SMF, some skins we're okay, i think i just don't like how it's set-up.
phpbb's skins are good though.
[better get back on topic now, lol]
