If you are banned or unable to view any pages on UnlimitedMB, if you just get a timeout when trying to access the server.
Then your IP has been banned at the firewall for excessive connections (Denial of Service Attack).
Instructions for FIREFOX:
If you have the Firefox browser with the FASTERFOX extention, this can cause you to be banned if you have changed some settings.
You need to have the fasterfox options set to "Default" or "Courteous".
If you have it set to "Optimized" or "Turbo Charged" you will be instantly banned on connecting to the server, because these settings make your browser open tons of connections to our server and slow it down.
DO NOT JUST UNINSTALL fasterfox, this wont fix the problem.
You must undo the changes first, then uninstall if you want to.
http://fasterfox.mozdev.org/images/Fasterfox_SS1.png
SET IT TO DEFAULT OR COURTEOUS
ALTERNATE METHOD
In your address bar type in about:config
Look for network.http.max-connections-per-server
change it to 8
close and restart browser
Instructions for Internet Explorer
If you have modified your connection limits you must restore the default settings.
These changes may be done without your knowledge by some program you installed.
Especially if these programs were supposed to "speed up" your browsing.
To restore normal (default) configuration.
Start -> run -> regedit.exe
Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings
Delete MaxConnectionsPerServer and MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server
IP bans are cleared a few times a week.
NOTE: It does not matter how often you visit the site, how many pages you view etc.., opening one page is enough, if you have a modified browser you will be banned!
The browser modifications cause your computer to hammer our server with connections (this may be completely without you even knowing its happening) which cause excessive use of our cpu.

I don't think it undoes it every 24 hours because I had the fasterfox set to Turbo, I change it to Default. It then took me 5 days to be unbanned.
Tyler

Is that Fasterfox's default or Firefox's default settings? If it is Fasterfox's default then you will probably still get banned.

I set it back to Default. Which in otherwords does not use FasterFox.
It is like not even having it.

You should try setting it as Default.
That works for me and now I haven't been banned.

Yes that is the problem I had. I forgot about that.
Follow that and it will work.

Eric,
I had the trouble with the FasterFox on a different computer, about two days ago.
I have still yet to be un-ip banned.
Could you undo my ban please.
**Double Post Merged by Administration**
I was banned Saturday, again, due to another FireFox modification. I fixed the problem, but it has been 3 days.
Eric, can you please unban my ip?

You probably didnt remove fasterfox if you keep getting banned.

IP bans are cleared every 24 hours.
If you're still banned after 3 days, you should consider looking for any other problems that could cause the ban to be re-issued. Below is a post that may help you verify how many connections are being opened to the server:
from http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_9.html
network.http.max-connections-per-server (16) - This setting determines how many simultaneous connections can be made to a single server. The default is 8, however you can increase the value for broadband connections to something like 16 or 32 to attempt to increase browsing speed. The maximum is 255, however note that raising this setting to a high value (in conjunction with a high value for the [I]network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-.* settings below) may be construed as a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack by some servers and your connection may be refused or even permanently banned. I strongly suggest that you keep this value sane. Simply increasing the number of connections to a server doesn't necessarily make things any faster, and indeed if every Firefox user does this then overall most sites will become slower.
Please goto about:config and check if you have modified this value

That was my problem 4 days ago. I changed that to 8 again, but still not un-ip banned...

Tyler

What are you referencing? If your school has one IP and you get it blocked form our server using fasterfox then they wont be able to access it for 24 hours.

If you make more than 15 connections at once, the script will automatically ban you. Unless you have a hacked/modified browser, you shouldn't be worrying about it.
Fastfox is a common example of this issue.

I am trying too, but the new FireFox Beta 3 just does it by itself.
There is no FasterFox or anything.
I use Internet Explorer for my site now :p
Use regular Firefox? You know, the one not in Beta?
Although it's going to suck if the upgrade bans all members using it... (If they have some sort of mod that grabs sites "faster" built in...)
UnlimitedMB
03-07-2008, 05:10 PM
The new beta works fine, the default is still 8 connections.
It uses the same configurations as firefox 2 if you had it installed.
So even tho you dont have fasterfox loaded, the beta is still using the settings that fasterfox modified.
Either way, uninstalling fasterfox does not undo the changes it makes to your configuration.
You have to use fasterfox and change the setting back to defaults using its options window.
Well that's good to hear that it doesn't have it built in :)
Would have been a disaster lol So many banned members :p Good to hear I have nothing to worry about with Firefox 3 :)
Also just wondering, what happens when you're banned like that? Error Message? What about people surfing the web that want to check out a site hosted here and have Fasterfox or something of that sort? They get banned?
Victor01469
03-07-2008, 09:03 PM
If your IP is banned, the server blocks all incoming/outgoing requests to that IP. It will simply look as though it is timing out; You won't get any custom error messages, or anything else saying you've been banned.
If someone has FasterFox, and has it set to open more than 15 simultaneous connections, their IP will be banned.

Hi.
I would just like to say that i am currently viewing this website via a proxy server. I cannot get on the your website or my website that i am PAYING a monthly subscription to you guys each month to host it. I think that you should unban all members what have been banned and maybe think of disabling this feature of your firewall. This is a bad thing i think. I can't even get on to my website because of this. Now i know it must be because my IP is banned as i can get on to ulmb.com and my site easily from other computers. The above methods of getting this fixed isn't working for me either. Please can you help me or else i will be changing where i host my website very quickly. I am really annoyed with this feature of the firewall as the site has been very good to me so far.

03-24-2008, 10:35 PM
Hello ugforum,
Because of number of malicious user's attempts to take down our servers, we had to enable this feature. If it wasn't enabled, ULMB would always be down, or very slow. Whether or not you have a paid account doesn't make a difference. You made more than 15 simultaneous connections to our server, and for the stability of our server, your IP was automatically banned. We clear the IP bans regularly, so you will need to wait until the list is cleared.
We're truly sorry about any inconvenience this may have caused you, although it was due to a problem on your end that you were banned.

Hi Victor,
Thank you for your reply. I know you have said that i have had 15 simultanous connections to this site at any one time. Is that meaning that i have had for example 15 seperate tabs to this site alone or does that include my website aswell. Ie 3 pages this site and 12 pages my site?
I dont ever recall having 3 pages open from this site as i think that pushing the barrel a bit and your saying its recorded me having 15 pages??? :confused:hmmm that is seriously weird. I understand your going to get idiots trying to bring your servers down and after thinking a little harder it does explain a lot as i wouldn't want that for myself.
I thank you for your time and i will continue to wait untill im unblocked.
Thanks.:)
It means your browser is modded to grab sites quicker.
Whether you did it manually, someone else did it for you, or you used a mod, your browser is grabbing at sites with multiple connections so you go faster on the net.
Which is why you're getting banned.

Hello parkook,
Unfortunately, we do not offer e-mail support to our customers, so I am unsure how you were able to e-mail that address and actually receive a response. If you indeed did get that e-mail, feel free to send it to me by PM so that I may further assist you.
I have not been notified by the administrators of anything you have done that would violate the server, although one possibility is that your browser made more than 15 simultaneous connections to our server, which would result in an automatic IP ban, preventing any ULMB sites from being viewed.
Other than that I have no way of verifying whether or not you have been IP banned or what the case is.
Because this issue was unrelated to the previous topic, it has been moved.

Hi,
I was banned for using this website from 22th and now really concerned about my websites visitors, what if they have the turbo thing on their browser on! will they stop from viewing my website as well? (if they connect more than 15 times which I really don't know how this happens and what it means)
Kind regards

I've been having much dificulty accessing my site and ULMB in general over the past few weeks. I've found that if I actually wish to access my site I have to find a good proxy to go threw. By looking on the forums I'm following advice from other posts, and have begun with a tracert to 64.72.116.195. Due to my difficulty in actually getting connected to the site I suggest contact threw the e-mail used for creation of my account would be much faster as I'm finding its difficult to find a proxy that will let me connect anymore these past few days.

ook...im using a normal browser, always have, i haven't connected to you more than 1-2 tabs at a time, and i have NEVER used any speed mod, so im utterly confused at why im banned, also, since a bout a week and a half ago, i've been using opera browser, but yet, no speed mods, im confused, i was banned last night and i wasn't on that whole day, but it worked night before, so im confused

Web standards suggest a browser should use no more than two persistent connections per server. Opera's default is 8 connections per server. Many users increase the number of "Max connections to a server" thinking it will make Opera faster. Are you sure you have never increased that number?
kittykat
05-12-2008, 12:20 PM
never increased the number, my connection is already pretty fast, and i have done no mods to my browser, and never intend to. By the way, thanks for unbanning me! also, i will NEVER dislike this service, as it is great!

Agreed. I haven't even been on the site for awhile and on and off I keep getting banned from it. Other users that try to view my off-site images are also complaining of similar issues. My settings and their's are all default in all browsers. This is getting ridiculous...
Edit: I'd suggest increasing that max to 8. A DoS attack would use much more than 8, so I don't see the issue on that. Regardless, I use multiple tabs all the time when I'm modifying my site. I just have to. I even do it in multiple browsers so I can view it's validity and appearance in each. This script is getting too buggy for me to even do that now...

Having multiple tabs open will not cause you to get banned, when I am browsing the forums I often times open up in excess of 20 tabs that are showing pages on our servers. My computer knows however to not make more than a certain number of connections to the server at one time (as in a fraction of a second to a second usually). You can have 1,000 tabs open on firefox to the same web page, and as long as you have not modified your default settings, your computer will know not to send more than the default number of connections to the server at any one time.
If you are hot linking images on a free account then it most definitely will not work and has absolutely nothing to do with this issue.
