I am having trouble setting up a domain name record.

I need to set the A record to direct to a IP address.

So:

abbeyholidaycottages.com
www.abbeyholidaycottages.com

Need to go to my IP

But there is a sub domain box that in the first case, doesn't need anyting. And the second case just need 'www.' But niether will work, why? I have to put a 'test' in and get 'test.abbeyholidaycottages'.

Why does the sub domain need to be filed in?

Thanks
Rob Holmes

You cannot change the dns entries for the domain or www subdomain.
We are a hosting provider not a dns service, it is expected that the domain will be used with our hosting.

Well I do host with you, but this is for another site, this for a different business and was bought on here because I use you for my main website.

Now, how can I change it to a domain service site? Cos I have paid for 2 years and I am not waiting that long before I can change it.

You can change nameservers in the control panel.
