Yeah, I want to set up my own PHP based forum so I signed up here because I heard how great it is (Which I agree with)

Unfortunatley I have not got a clue as to what I am supposed to do, Do I need to download anything? Do I need to know like.. major coding stuff?

No it doesn't require major knowledge.
I knew nothing about PHP, MYSQL and setting up forums until Saturday. Its now Wednesday and i'm quite pleased with the progress i've made on installation etc.
Guru is a very helpful person, he has knowledge and i'm sure he would set it up for you.
I can help with step-by-step instructions if you need also or i will even set it up i do not mind.

Wow, People here are so nice, I have had two offers to set up my forum for me, where as on other sites all I would here is "If it's too hard for you go some place else noob" or some crap like that. I havnt even started my site yet but I have the feeling I will be sticking with it.

Maybe some step by step instructions would be useful, and if I am too stupid to figure them out well... Then I could get someone to set it up for me. I would like to learn how to do it on my own, that way if I ever wanted to build another one I would know how :D

OK well what i did is firstly chose a forum to use. I used phpBB as this is FREE. I then went to their website and downloded the latest version which can be found here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/phpbb/phpBB-2.0.21.zip
You then upload all of the files in that zip file to ULMB. (Use any FTP program or upload file by file here which would take longer)
Then before you install the forum you create a database by clicking MYSQL in your control panel. Choose a database name and password.
Ok then you go to www.yoursite.ulmb.com/phpBB2/install/install.php and install it.

I see, and I upload to crimeworldrpg.ulmb.com right? (Using FTP I mean)

EDIT:: Alright, Hugh has CuteFTP now, he's lost again... (Yes, I like to refer to myself in the third person once in a while...)

You upload using these settings on your FTP Program
hostname/ftop address: ftp.ulmb.com
folder to store: /
ftp login: youruser.ulmb.com
ftppasword: yourpassword

Yep. I'm doing that now :D When I was trying to upload a few of the things came back as rejected by the server, I used that .zip you give me though and some of the files inside were rejected, Is that bad?

EDIT:: After uploading all the files (That the server would allow me to upload) and making a MySQL database and then going to www.crimeworldrpg.ulmb.com/phpBB2/install/install.php it still didnt work >.<

crimeworldrpg

Yeah... this isnt working >.< is there like a flash video or something that would show how it's done? I know a few other sites have them but you know... I dont want to use those other sites

OK you created a Mysql database, you unzipped the files and uploaded them all, including those in the folders, and went to where it's located on your site in install/install.php which doesn't seem to be phpBB2 btw, that's probably the main problem, could you email me a screenshot of your site's structure? arenlor@ulmb.com will work, umm because your files aren't to be found.

Edit: ok found the problem, you need to reload all of PHPBB2 just IM me arenbloodleaf for AIM you can see the others there, or email me or something, I'll help you while you do it, you put only the install folder on the site, which is why it's upset.

Holy crap, That confused me... how do I reload PHPBB2?

EDIT:: I am going to delete everything I uploaded and try again :D

Second edit:: Those same four files didn't got rejected by the server again.

THIRD EDIT!:: Is there a real simple step by step thing that will show me how to do it? I created a new folder in my http://crimeworldrpg.ulmb.com/ folder called PHPBB2 and uploaded them there, but it didnt help >.< I get the 404 error.

Yet another edit:: Once the forum is up will I be able to add mods to it? If I can't thenthere really is no point on making it since I will need the cash mod and bank mod along with a few others.

You don't able to upload .bmp,.htaccess that why the zip file rejected. You should upload it one by one. Upload directory. When some thing rejected then don't worry about it. You no need .htaccess to continue your forum. There is many site which are running successfully with out it. Then upload file. Then open the installetion file from phpbb directory which you download. But you may be fill some problem when installetion is completed. Becouse you need to install some mod or hack to make your site better. We will try our best on that time.

Here is your site address:- http://crimeworldrpg.ulmb.com/forum

Enjoy your board. You must backup your file before modifying. You can't modify the .tpl file online. This is a big problem. You can ask this facility to admin of this board to help you to install new mod.
