some operating systems, such as windows, do not allow a file to have no name.
.htaccess files have no name, only an extension and cause problems with that operating system.
It clearly explains the problem when it says: File or Folder name cannot begin with a dot.
I dont know if you are using windows, but i know on professional windows 7 i dont have problems anymore with storing files with no name.

What application are you using to unzip?

The server is UNIX based and cannot have files beginning with a dot.
However Windows 20** servers do allow this. If you want to have a .htaccess file then you'll have to move hosts,

Thats not correct.

Probably the server is confused and still thinks you're a free account. Admins can easily fix. :) Do I get a lollipop? Lol xD
