Quick question.
Is it just me, or does the mysql "phpmyadmin" run very slow?
Also, is their a way someone can import some data into the mysql database for me
(backup from previous forum)

No, It's not you, phpMyAdmin runs a bit slow, the reason being the amount of databases that run on the server. It really has nothing to do with server resources, as they aren't too high. I've reserched the issue myself, and the less databases running on a server, the faster it is, which makes sense.
But we also have to remember the amount of members using the service, and the amount of databases they may have. This can certainly add up.
You need to make an SQL backup of your pevious forum. With the SQL backup, in phpMyAdmin, click "import". It then prompts you to browse for the SQL backup file on your computer, and then you upload.
If you are using a free forum host, that gives you no access to your database, most likely they will prevent you from making a backup. (Reason: They don't want you moving). In that case, you may just want to start over, or keep the current forum.
Hahaha I had this issue just last night :D LOL
I was trying to do a backup of my database via phpMyAdmin and WOW I just shut down the comp because it took way too long :p :D LOL
Usually it takes pretty long anyways, but I'm ok with it. Last night though it was taking WAY too long. Timed out last night.

Thanks for your response, but I am aware of how to do the mysql import, export ... etc.
My problem is, that everything is pretty much timing out before i get to the location.
For example if i go to click the "phpbb3_forums" table, I'll time out.
That's the usual place it either takes for ever to load or times out.
Getting to phpMyAdmin isn't too long. When you want to get into the tables and what not of your DB is when it takes forever... Once it's loaded and you want to export, it doesn't take that long there either. It's just when loading the tables of your database that it takes a long time.
Just posting some notes for the Admins on this. :)

We will check into this but it seems to be a phpmyadmin problem.
When the database is used with scripts its fast, it seems only phpmyadmin is slow, and only for some people.
On our control panel database we have tables with 10,000+ rows and it loads fast in phpmyadmin, i think it might be due to some pc firewalls.

Yes, it is definitely coming from phpMyAdmin, the thing is, it's not exactly a firewall on a user's PC that's slowing it down. There is something internally that is making it slow.

I'd have to agree that its not a firewall issue.
I have absolutely no firewalls turned on at the moment, and its still slow.
Also I tried it on Internet Explorer in case it was something with Firefox and got the same results..
Well, look into it when you can :)

I bet Eric is overwhelmed at the moment with everything that's been going on. If I can be of assistance is troubleshooting/fixing the problem, just let me know. It's obviously a problem with phpMyAdmin internally, we just need to give him time to find out what it is, and how to fix it.

Can somone who is having this problem please give the name of the database, and exact instructions on what to click in phpmyadmin to reproduce the slowness.

UnlimitedMB, Are you 100% It's not at your end?
I've been reading around the forums, seen notes, about peoples Mysql 'PhpMyAdmin''s Being Very Slow. This also Includes mine. I've tried multiple browsers. Still the same result.
my computer:
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 CPU
6320 @ 1.86 GHz
1.40HSz, 0.99GB of RAM
300 Gig HD
All firewalls are disabled, Computer, routers, etc.
Well Eric did say this:

@ Eric:
This happens when entering what ever database. Doesn't matter how big it is. You can check out one of mine:
2652_talkhome
Just go to it, click on "2652_talkhome (30)" (so you select that database). Once you start going there is where it takes for ever...
It's only when you want to see the tables in a database that it takes a long time to load. Also to backup you have to go through that so there's no way around it. If you just click on "Export", it tells you to click on a DB you wish to export and it takes forever that way as well.

I get the same problem every so often, too. It takes forever for the page to load, and sometimes it stays at a blank screen and says "Done" in the status bar.
I haven't been able to backup my database in months because that page never loads, no matter how fast/slow the rest of phpMyAdmin is, too. :(

OK now I see the problem.
Mysql is responding very slow to certain queries, i am working on fixing it.
It seems only phpmyadmin is effected, normal php usage doesnt seem to be effected.
Good to hear Eric :) Hope you can get it fixed :)
-Best hosting support. Definitely. My other hosts (in the past) took forever to respond back and usually it was some stupid auto respond message that didn't help at all...

Its a bug in mysql http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=19588
Looks like its fixed in 5.1 but its still only beta version.
Im not sure if any scripts have problems with 5.1
Hmm... guess we'll have to live with it for a while. Well it's ok I guess. I usually do backups by going to phpMyAdmin in one tab while doing other things on another tab.

Eric,
I did a little research on the changes in version 5.1, and no scripts should be affected by the update. I am aware it is only a beta version, but it may be the best idea to upgrade for now, as many members are suffering from this. It's up to you, I'm just letting you know what I found out.

I have upgraded the phpmyadmin to the latest version which seems to have a fix for this, it looks like its working from my tests, please test it and let me know if its working.

Thank you for making the upgrade. My tests as well are coming out fine.
Perfect! Thanks! :)
Everything working just fine on my end now :) No slow downs and my sites are still running just fine :)
Thank you very much for fixing this :)
Edit: Actually now the only thing about it is that it takes a while to export (set up the download) a database.
Victor01469

That is normal for phpMyAdmin. It takes a bit time to generate a backup.

I noticed you were doing something that was accessing the buggy tables.
It seems the new phpmyadmin still has this bug in the backup but not in the show tables like the old one.
Hmm.. well I'm sure they'll probably fix it soon in an update. :)
@ Victor - It wasn't that slow in the past. In the past it was only getting to the tables that was slow (looking in the database). Now it's just slow in exporting a database (saving it to my PC).
Takes about just as long as it did before just in a different spot. Hopefully a future update comes out soon to fix this.

We will just add a fast backup/restore function in the ulmb mysql area.
The way phpmyadmin does it is slow anyway.

Hmm, I see what you mean. I am just glad we are able to access our tables much faster, that's what I mainly need.
We just have to give some time for an update to be released. Anyways, making a MYSQL database backup isn't something anyone needs to do too frequently.
By the way: Thank you Eric, that tool would be very helpful.
